Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to move their family back to the UK is already raising questions about how their return could affect the other members of the royal family.
According to sources, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been left displeased by the decision due to their past friction with the Sussexes.
The move comes at a particularly sensitive time for the monarchy, with Prince Harry having recently rebuilt his relationship with his father, King Charles.
5William and Kate are said to be feeling uneasy about Harry and Meghan’s decision to establish themselves in the UK again.
According to Us Weekly, royal expert Christopher Andersen suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales could be frustrated by the development, particularly because they already have significant responsibilities within the monarchy.
“All I can think of is: here we go again,” Andersen told the publication. “For starters, I can only imagine that William and Kate are tearing their hair out.”
He continued, “They have so much on their plate as it is trying to shore up the monarchy and propel it into the future; they don’t really need to cope with having Harry and Megan on their proverbial doorstep.”
The expert’s comments come as the brothers continue to have a complicated relationship. While Harry has made progress with their father, there has been little indication that his relationship with William has experienced a similar breakthrough.
The Sussexes Could Once Again Draw Away Attention From Other Royals
5Harry and Meghan’s return could also create another challenge for the wider royal family, considering the huge attention that tends to follow the couple.
Andersen believes their presence in Britain could overshadow other members of the monarchy, particularly William and Kate.
“By returning to the U.K., the Sussexes will inevitably suck up all the oxygen in the room,” he said. “They will generate countless tabloid stories and take the focus away from other members of the Royal family, which is a major no-no. King Charles and Queen Camilla, in particular, don’t like to be upstaged, and the same goes for William.”
The royal expert also suggested that the Sussexes’ constant presence could place the palace in a difficult position, especially if their return generates sustained media coverage.
Prince Harry And Meghan’s Return Could Mean A Renewed Interest In Royal Life
5Harry and Meghan’s planned return to Britain has also raised questions about whether the couple could be seeking a renewed connection to the royal family after stepping away from their royal roles.
Royal author Christopher Andersen suggested that their move could put pressure on the monarchy to reconsider Harry’s place within the institution.
“The Sussexes have made it crystal clear that they love their life in California. Are they really willing to give all that up?” Andersen told Us Weekly.
He added, “It is possible that this is Harry and Meghan’s way of forcing the royal family’s hand,” while noting that William may still oppose his brother taking on any royal role because “there is still bitterness there. All is not forgiven.”
The Sussexes Prioritize Their Kids’ Privacy Amid Royal Tension
5The children’s privacy could become one of the biggest challenges once the family settles into life in Britain.
Harry and Meghan have kept Archie and Lilibet largely away from the public eye, with even their faces remaining relatively unfamiliar to the wider public compared with their royal cousins.
Andersen questioned how the couple would maintain that level of privacy if their children began attending school in the UK.
“As parents, Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they don’t even want their children’s faces shown on a Christmas card,” he said. “We still don’t have a clear idea of what Archie and Lili look like, which seems absurd given the fact that the faces of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have been known to us all since birth.”
He added, “How do Harry and Meghan plan to shield their children from paparazzi crouching behind cars and lurking in the shadows? It is bound to be a nightmare.”
The concern is especially significant because Meghan previously struggled with the British tabloid press during the couple’s time as working royals.
Prince Harry’s Reconciliation With King Charles May Have Influenced His Return
5Harry’s improving relationship with King Charles could also have influenced his family’s return to the UK.
The father and son reunited in September 2025 after nearly two years apart, following a handwritten letter from Harry expressing his desire to reconnect. The meeting was described by an insider as “super positive and very relaxed,” with the pair discussing the children and Charles’ health.
“There were hugs and tears at the meeting,” the source told Us Weekly. They further noted that they “shared a long hug when they first saw each other” and that “Harry started crying and it was very emotional for both of them. They really missed each other.”
Harry had previously made his desire for reconciliation clear, telling the BBC, “I would love reconciliation with my family. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
More recently, Harry, Meghan and their children visited Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove, where the King saw Archie and Lilibet for the first time in four years.
