Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed their plans to move back to the UK to establish a home base in the country, years after their infamous royal exit.
The couple also emphasized their plan to maintain their Montecito mansion in California, USA, as the UK move would only be for an extended period of time, not permanently.
However, as seen in a new report, sources in the luxury real estate market shared that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely sell the stunning property, noting that brokers are very interested in it.
5A source in the Santa Barbara luxury real estate market told the New York Post that there “have been rumblings” that Harry and Meghan will eventually sell their Montecito mansion, noting that “every broker wants that listing.”
Having purchased the estate for $14.65 million in June 2020, the couple sits on a goldmine. Zillow now values the property at an estimated $29 million, setting the Sussexes up for a financial windfall if they decide to sell.
However, a bigger motivation for sale may be the hefty $600,000-plus the couple has to spend yearly to cover just their mortgage payments and taxes.
Speaking to the news outlet, Jason Streatfield, a Douglas Elliman broker, noted that such deals likely won’t show up in the market immediately.
“Many times properties like this will trade off market with an NDA signed and all of the terms sealed until the property records at the county,” the broker said, adding, “It’s very possible that they would be listing it, but I have a strong feeling that it’s already being discussed and shown.”
The Sussexes Could List Their Mansion For As High As $75 Million, Expert Reveals
5Speaking more about Harry and Meghan’s property, the broker, Streatfield, revealed that the mansion could actually be listed for a massive amount of money, estimating $75 million for the place.
He said, “Everyone’s kind of asked me what I think the property is worth, what they would list it for and what it would sell for.”
“It’s a beautiful ocean view estate on seven acres with about 18,000 square feet. Nine bedrooms and 17 bathrooms, with the pool, tennis court, and beautiful grounds,” the expert noted.
“In Montecito, there’s been three sales this year above $50 million,” Streatfeild added about Harry and Meghan’s mansion. “So I would expect a home like this to be listed in the range of $75 million. And I would expect it to sell somewhere between $65 and $55 million based on what it has to offer in its location.”
Meanwhile, the NYP’s source noted that while parting with the beautiful estate is difficult, the massive financial burden of keeping it may force the couple’s hand.
The source suggests that a formal listing could take a few months, or the pair might wait a year to evaluate their lifestyle change in Britain first. However, if they commit to a permanent future in the United Kingdom, they are highly unlikely to retain the California property.
“But if they do decide to plant roots in the UK, I don’t see a world where they will keep this home,” the source added.
Prince Harry And Meghan’s UK Move Comes After Their Highgrove Meeting With King Charles
5The whole situation with Harry and Meghan’s UK move comes after signs of progress emerged between the Sussexes and members of the royal family after a recent trip the couple made last month.
Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House.
The visit was the first time Meghan and the children had seen the monarch face-to-face since 2022. The meeting was a sign of progress after years of strained relations between the Sussexes and other members of the royal family.
According to InStyle, the Duke of Sussex is reported to be “determined to make things work” with his family members, and, according to a source, Harry did not want to do “anything to jeopardize that” progress.
The report also said Harry wanted further opportunities to spend time with his father and for Charles to have more personal contact with Archie and Lilibet.
The Duke Has Publicly Expressed His Desire For Reconciliation
5Harry has consistently expressed public sentiments that he wants to fix his relationship with his family.
In a 2025 publication by the BBC, Harry reportedly said, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more; life is precious.”
He also expressed concern about his father’s health and stated he didn’t know how much time his father had left.
The Highgrove House reunion provided a clear public sign of progress in the duke’s bid to reconcile with his father, the king.
Although Meghan’s comments about ‘hard days’ were presented as a reflection on Harry’s encouragement, the remark has, however, prompted concern over the success of the prince’s long-awaited reconciliation.
Meghan Markle Recently Shared The Special Advice Prince Harry Gave Her About Dealing With ‘Hard Days’
5During a special screening of “Cookie Queens” in Los Angeles, Meghan recalled advice Harry had given her years earlier. She explained that her husband’s experience as a British Army pilot shaped how he viewed difficult situations.
Speaking at the event, the duchess stated, “I was thinking about something my husband told me ages ago, because we all go through experiences and life is full of surprises.”
She went on to explain that on really “hard days,” Harry once said, “Hey, but my love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening above the storm, the sun’s always shining.”
As reported by People Magazine, for Meghan, the message was to look at issues and difficulties from a broader perspective.
She said, “So I think when you really zoom out and think, ‘My gosh, how many things have we gone through that have felt hard?’ And then you still get through them, or how many goals do you think you’re not gonna hit? And then you hit them, and you supersede them.”
