Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may have packed Madison Square Garden with roughly 1,000 guests for their wedding, but Adam Scott says the spectacle was not what stayed with him.
Nearly two months after the superstar couple exchanged vows, the “Severance” actor is opening up about the surprisingly ordinary feeling behind their extraordinary celebration.
Despite the A-list guest list, elaborate setting, and enormous scale, Scott says the July 3 ceremony ultimately felt like something much simpler: two people genuinely in love.
For Scott, attending one of the year’s biggest celebrity weddings came with expectations that quickly disappeared once the ceremony began.
During an August 24 appearance on “Today,” the 53-year-old explained that what struck him and his wife, Naomi Scott, most was how genuine the celebration felt.
“You know what, I think the thing we walked away with, the impression we had more than anything, was that it was a real wedding,” Scott said, according to PEOPLE.
For a ceremony held inside one of New York City’s most famous venues and attended by some of the biggest names in entertainment, that was apparently an unexpected takeaway.
“You had the sense that these are just people who love each other,” Scott continued.
The actor acknowledged the enormous scale of the occasion, joking that there were considerably more guests than at his own wedding.
Still, once all the celebrity trappings were stripped away, Scott said, “At its core, it just felt like a regular wedding with two people coming together.”
That emotion apparently spread throughout the room. “Everyone teared up,” he revealed. “It was a really lovely, lovely event.”

Scott is hardly the first wedding guest to walk away surprised by the contrast between the scale of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s celebration and how personal it felt.
The couple exchanged vows at Madison Square Garden on July 3 before an estimated 1,000 guests. Their famous attendees included Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Dakota Johnson, Hugh Grant, and Scott’s longtime friend Paul Rudd.

Swift’s brother, Austin, served as her Man of Honor, while Kelce’s brother, Jason, stood beside him as Best Man. Adam Sandler was given perhaps the biggest responsibility of all, officiating the ceremony.
Despite the Hollywood-heavy guest list, the couple did not limit invitations to famous faces.
“Good Morning America” hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, who attended the wedding, similarly described the atmosphere as unexpectedly intimate.
Stephanopoulos said it was “as intimate as it could possibly be” inside a venue as enormous as Madison Square Garden, while Roberts pointed out that Swift and Kelce invited neighbors and high school friends alongside their celebrity guests.
Country star Brad Paisley came away with a similar impression, calling it “one of the least pretentious weddings” he had ever attended.

Scott’s invitation also presented him with an opportunity to score serious points with his teenage daughter, Frankie, who happens to be a major Swiftie.
Unfortunately, there was a catch. When “Today” co-host Craig Melvin asked whether attending Taylor Swift’s wedding earned him “some serious dad points,” Scott admitted that it did, but those points did not last uncontested.
“Sure did, except I didn’t bring her,” the “Parks and Recreation” alum joked. “So I lost some points at the same time.”
Frankie did not completely miss out on the excitement, though. According to her father, the teenager stayed awake until Scott and his wife returned home so she could hear everything about the wedding.
Scott and Naomi attended alongside fellow Hollywood couple Paul Rudd and Julie Yaeger. The following day, Scott shared a photograph of the foursome dressed for the occasion.
Scott’s account is one of several that have emerged from inside the closely watched ceremony. Scott did not reveal precisely which moment prompted guests to reach for tissues, but previous accounts from inside the ceremony shed more light on why emotions were running so high.
As The Blast previously reported, AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron offered a glimpse into the wedding vows before deleting his social media account.
Aron described the couple’s vows as deeply personal and said both Swift and Kelce read from gold books during the ceremony. The bride and groom reportedly spent considerable time sharing their feelings, turning the massive venue into something far more intimate.
The emotional atmosphere was apparently anticipated. Guests were reportedly given embroidered handkerchiefs for the ceremony, an unusually thoughtful detail that proved appropriate considering Scott’s revelation that “everyone teared up.”
The wedding’s design also helped disguise its arena setting. According to PEOPLE, Madison Square Garden was transformed with lush greenery into a whimsical environment featuring a rose garden-inspired reception area and another section resembling a forest with towering trees.
Swift and Kelce also wrote their own lengthy vows, while Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks were among the musical legends who performed during the festivities.
