Fans of Miami Vice will be thrilled to hear that actress Camila Morrone has been added to the cast of the upcoming reboot.

The American-Argentine actress and model will star alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, who are playing the police duo Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett.

For now, Morrone’s role remains under wraps but may become clearer as the premiere date approaches. She is further joined by Supernatural star Alden Ehrenreich and Gossip Girl actress Whitney Peak.

The movie is set to debut in May 2028 after a significant delay pushed its release back from the initial August 2027 date.

Online, fans were hyped about Morrone’s addition and quickly began speculating about the part she will play.

“Has to be Gina. Nice choice, has the look,” one user said of the model.

“Camila is the PERFECT Gina. And honestly all I can think about is … and to quote Ms. V herself …. ‘It’s inevitable,’” another fan commented.

Gina is a member of the Vice Division who also works undercover for the Organized Crime Bureau. She is Detective Trudy Joplin’s (Olivia Brown) partner and was originally portrayed by Saundra Santiago.

According to a synopsis of the film, “Vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs, from Miami-Dade’s organized crime bureau, go undercover as criminals to infiltrate and dismantle southern Florida’s criminal enterprises.”

It has also been revealed that the film will be set in the mid-1980s and be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the original Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas-led series.

Dylan Clark/Dylan Clark Productions will produce the action thriller, with a script by Dan Gilroy. It will also be filmed entirely in IMAX to immerse viewers in Miami’s sights and sounds, with Joseph Kosinski helming the project.

Production will begin later this year, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

Jordan and Butler were among the first actors announced for the movie, which came as little surprise given Kosinski’s strong desire to cast them. The director revealed his interest in working with both actors during an interview with Variety last year.

“Michael is someone I’ve admired for a long time, [and] always wanted to work with him,” he said.

“Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. Again, I’ve just really admired his choices,” the director continued. “If it ends up being those two, I’d be very lucky.”

While fans face a long wait before Jordan and Butler share the screen, both actors have other projects that have either recently debuted or may arrive before Miami Vice ’85.

Jordan is set to star in “The Thomas Crown Affair,” following his appearances in the award-winning “Sinners” and the animated film “Swapped.” Butler has “Heat 2” and “American Psycho” in the works and recently appeared in “Eddington” and “Caught Stealing.”

One person who does not share the growing anticipation for Miami Vice ’85 is original series star Don Johnson.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in April, Johnson was asked what he thought about the upcoming reboot and whether he would be involved.

He responded with a four-word phrase: “It ain’t Miami Vice,” seemingly suggesting that he does not believe the new movie will match the legacy of the original series.

At the time, the actor also described starring in the original series as a “profound event” in his life.
