Meghan Markle’s ‘Protecting My Child’ Remark Resurfaces Amid Shocking Relocation U-Turn

Meghan Markle‘s words have found their way back to the spotlight after nearly half a decade!

The Duchess of Sussex previously expressed her concerns about living and raising her children in the UK following the famous 2020 Megxit. She and her husband, Prince Harry, have been thriving away from royal duties with their two kids in California.

Recent headlines suggest that Meghan Markle is now flipping the switch and that the whole family is set to return to the United Kingdom. Plans for British education are already in the works for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

As reports of Meghan hitting reverse on her previous stance about raising her children in the States make waves, other truths begin to unravel. The former working royal was vocal about her concerns about moving back to England with her husband and children.

In an August 2022 interview with The Cut for her cover story, Meghan said, “Sorry, I have a problem with that,” when asked about the possibility of her son attending school in the UK.

She explained that the problem stemmed from being followed by paparazzi during ordinary school-mom activities like drop-offs or pick-ups.

“That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child,” she clarified, explaining that the case was totally different in Montecito, where they live.

She shared that occasionally two moms stop to take photos of her as she picks up her son from school, and Archie is seen as a regular kid who brings a week’s worth of freshly picked fruit for his classmates and enjoys playing a “roaring” game at recess.

The Sussexes’ Security Concerns Were No Secret

Meghan and Harry have previously spoken out about their concerns for their family’s security after stepping down as senior working royals.  They lost the automatic taxpayer-funded protection they once had in the UK. Harry filed a lawsuit seeking enhanced security protections, but the case was ultimately dismissed.

In 2025, Harry reportedly told news outlets that he couldn’t “see a world” where he felt comfortable enough to travel with his family to his home country, England. However, less than a month ago, the whole family visited the UK for the first time in four years.

US Weekly reports that Prince Archie and his sister, Princess Lilibet, had the chance to bond with their estranged grandfather, King Charles III, amid his ongoing battle with an undisclosed form of cancer. The young royals spent quality time with the King and Queen Camila at Highgrove House estate.

Recent reports indicate that Harry and Meghan are already packing their bags and are set to begin a new chapter in the United Kingdom. The relocation would seemingly be for an extended period, and their children would enroll in schools there.

Despite Meghan’s previous fears, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet are scheduled to begin the upcoming academic year at a British institution this September. Details of their home and the children’s school remain strictly private.

The lovebirds’ relocation does not mark an immediate return to their offices as working royals, which they left behind in 2020. The Blast said they are establishing a private, completely non-royal home base somewhere in Britain and will still maintain their Montecito home in the US.

The couple was vocal about how significant media intrusion contributed to their decision to drop their working titles and move away. They were scrutinized for nearly everything from how they spent money on their home to their travel choices. This touched a sensitive part of Harry as he connected this media pressure to his mother’s painful death. Princess Diana died in 1997 following a car crash while being chased by photographers.

According to legal filings, Meghan and Harry claim the royal institution did not support them. They stated that, amid the noise, they did not feel protected by the family structure around them. The Statesman also pointed out that there were allegations of racism.

The couple was vocal about the emotional challenges they faced as working royals in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan shared that during her pregnancy, an unnamed family member had commented on how “dark” Archie’s skin would be.  Prince William has vehemently denied all accusations of the royal family being racist.

The power couple’s endeavors in the entertainment industry have taken a downward turn following their recent production’s poor Box Office performance. Meghan and Harry served as executive producers for “Cookie Queens,” a documentary film about the joys and pressures of four Girl Scouts.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was shown in 446 theaters but generated only $327,797 in its first weekend. Royal expert Kinsey Schofield weighed in, saying the Sussexes should limit how much of their professional projects they share with the public.

“I would tell them to disappear professionally for a little while,” Schofield said, adding that they should streamline their efforts onto one project and lean on experts to help with execution. The Blast shared that this is not Meghan and Harry’s first industry flop. They have lost major deals with Netflix and Spotify over the past few years.
