Meghan McCain Told ‘Take Better Care Of Yourself’ Amid Backlash

Meghan McCain has a blunt message for people criticizing her changing appearance: She is getting older, raising three children, and has no intention of apologizing for either. The former co-host of “The View” addressed the cruel comments after a recent podcast clip attracted viewers who seemingly focused more on her looks than the political topic she was discussing. Although Meghan McCain said she normally has thick skin, she admitted that the sudden wave of body-shaming commentary caught her off guard.

McCain discussed the criticism during Wednesday’s episode of her “Citizen McCain” podcast. “I am normally an Armadillo-skinned person, and there’s been a lot of commentary about how ‘old and ugly’ I am now,” she said.

Rather than attempting to convince critics that her appearance had not changed, the 41-year-old television personality openly acknowledged that it had. “I’m 41 years old … I’m going to age. I’m going to get older. I am fatter because I’ve had three kids,” McCain continued, who shares Liberty, 5, Clover, 3, and 6-month-old Ransom with her husband, Ben Domenech.

McCain also noted that audiences are no longer seeing her with the polished appearance she maintained while working on network television. “I look different because I don’t have professional hair and makeup every day,” she explained.

The mother of three added that she would sometimes rather “spend time” with her children than devote that time to styling her hair and applying makeup.

A Viral Political Clip Sparked The Backlash

The body-shaming comments surfaced after a clip featuring McCain and her podcast co-host, Miranda Wilkins, spread online earlier this week. In the video, the pair discussed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. However, some viewers seemingly ignored the political conversation and instead used the comments section to criticize McCain’s appearance.

McCain speculated that many of those leaving negative messages had never previously watched her podcast. Even so, she acknowledged that the intensity of the reaction affected her. “It is a challenging cruelty to have people have such [opinions],” McCain admitted.

She said this was the first time she had experienced a noticeable wave of people commenting that she suddenly appeared older. “This is the first time people have reacted, ‘Oh, Meghan looks a lot older.’ I am a lot older,” she said.

Social Media Users Remain Divided Over Meghan McCain’s Response

McCain’s attempt to confront the body-shaming did not stop the negative commentary, with several social media users continuing to criticize both her appearance and her public platform.

“True but she can take better care of herself since she doesn’t work and is home most of the time except for that bs podcast she does a couple days a week from home,” one person wrote. However, the same user acknowledged that the former “View” co-host should not be considered old, adding, “41 years old isn’t old.”

Other reactions were more dismissive. One critic wrote, “She’s also a horrible person,” while another mocked McCain’s suggestion that people were closely discussing her appearance. “No one is talking about Megan McCain, in any capacity,” the user commented.

Another person responded to the “old and ugly” remarks with, “Well, if the shoe fits….” As someone else wrote, “It’s not trolling if it’s the truth!”

Wilkins joined the conversation by pointing out that neither woman uses several of the cosmetic procedures or weight-loss treatments associated with maintaining a particular Hollywood image. “We don’t get Botox, we haven’t had the thread facelift, we’re not on Ozempic,” Wilkins said.

McCain responded with a joke while confirming that she is not taking the medication. “It’s tempting, but I’m not [on Ozempic],” she quipped.

The author then sarcastically apologized for not being a “facelift, injectable person” and for appearing on the podcast without professional hair and makeup every day.

McCain’s response to the body-shaming commentary comes just one week after she addressed a different wave of “negative online chatter” involving her family. “Going to address something because there’s quite a bit of negative online chatter directed at me,” the television personality began in a social media statement.

McCain then rejected speculation that political disagreements had created conflict between herself and her relatives. “My mother, siblings and I love and support each other despite our political differences and affiliations,” she continued.

The author maintained that her own political position had not changed, explaining that she sees no conflict in remaining a conservative Republican while members of her family support another political party.
