Ryan Lochte’s soon-to-be wife, Molly Gillihan, is firing back at his ex-wife, Kayla Reid, after Reid accused her of having an affair with Lochte while they were still married. In a new interview, Gillihan offered more details about how her relationship with the Olympic swimmer began, insisting she would “never” date a married man. Her comments come just weeks after Lochte and Reid finalized their contentious divorce, which lasted more than a year and saw both sides level accusations of wrongdoing.
Gillihan pushed back against the claims that she stole Lochte from Reid in a statement to TMZ. According to the soon-to-be new Mrs. Lochte, she doesn’t see herself as a homewrecker because she said Reid and Lochte’s “home was broken” when she met the Olympian. “I did not break up your marriage. I’m not a homewrecker,” she said. “He was not living in the home. [Reid] filed for divorce … Reid had kicked him out.”
While she’s living her best life with Lochte now, Gillihan said she could understand why Reid would be “mad and upset” about the end of her relationship with the “Traitors” alum. “But to lie and make things up about me, I don’t get,” she said. “I really don’t understand.”
Gillihan Said She’s Only Spoken To Reid A Few Times, Doesn’t Consider Her A Friend
Gillihan told TMZ that she initially met Reid in 2021, who allegedly told her that she wasn’t happy in her relationship with Lochte. After that, Gillihan reportedly only spoke to Reid “four or five times.”
When asked whether she felt she was betraying her friend by entering a relationship with Lochte, Gillihan said no, clarifying that she was never friends with Reid to begin with.
“No [I wasn’t Kayla’s friend] and I’ll take that to my grave,” she said. “I would never consider Kayla a friend of mine, ever. I would never date a friend’s husband.”
Ryan Lochte Admits To Making Mistakes During His Marriage To Reid
According to a previous report from The Blast, Reid broke her silence about the challenges she endured during her marriage to Lochte. She referenced a journal she kept throughout their years together and recalled an entry in which she described their relationship as a “ticking time bomb.” While speaking with the media, Reid said she wished things had been better but was more grateful to be free than anything. “I don’t think it was a love anyone deserved,” she said.
Lochte, meanwhile, addressed his ex-wife’s claims and confessed to making many “mistakes” during their time together. “Looking back, I wasn’t ready to be a husband or the man my family deserved at that point in my life,” he said before saying he was most grateful for his children.
Lochte Is Moved In With His New Partner
In January 2026, Lochte and Gillihan moved in together, saying they wanted to create a safer space for their children. “We needed a bigger home to support our blended family, and we’re focused on creating a loving, stable environment for all of our children,” he said.
Lochte said that another reason they moved in together was that they couldn’t contain their love for one another. “Everything happens for a reason,” he stated. “And it was God’s way of saying enough is enough between both of you, between me and Kayla, of just being miserable and not happy and not living our best life. So we got separated and now I’m living my best life.”
