Secret Service Agent Pulled From JD Vance Detail After Leak Claim

A reported leak from within JD Vance’s Secret Service detail has triggered an internal investigation after an agent was allegedly tied to the disclosure of sensitive travel information.

The alleged security lapse has put the agency under intense scrutiny, with officials reportedly alarmed that details about the vice president’s movements and his family’s travel plans surfaced in a media report.

The incident has since raised fresh concerns about operational security surrounding one of the country’s most heavily protected public officials.

The Secret Service has reportedly removed an agent assigned to JD Vance’s protective detail following allegations that confidential travel information was shared with the press.

According to CNN, the agent is accused of providing details that were later included in an article by MS Now, which explored growing frustrations among agents responsible for protecting the 41-year-old and his family.

Among the information published was a planned Marine Corps helicopter trip Vance intended to take with his son for a golf lesson.

Although the outing was ultimately scrapped because of severe weather, White House officials were reportedly outraged that details of the planned movement had become public before the trip took place.

The report also revealed that the Secret Service uses the codename “Bobcat” for Vance, a reference to his upbringing, while citing multiple anonymous sources said to have knowledge of the vice president’s schedule and flight plans.

While the leaked travel details immediately caught the attention of government officials, the report also shed light on the challenges facing the agents responsible for protecting JD Vance, Second Lady Usha, and their three children.

According to the publication, frequent last-minute schedule changes had become a recurring source of frustration for members of the protective detail.

Agents were reportedly forced to scrap personal plans, cancel scheduled time off, and rapidly shift locations whenever the vice president’s itinerary changed.

Although those claims showed the demanding nature of the assignment, officials were reportedly far more concerned about the security implications of operational information becoming public.

CNN reported that the story quickly prompted involvement from the Secret Service, the FBI, and White House officials, with one source describing the disclosure as an immediate internal security concern.

As the investigation unfolded, agency leadership and the vice president’s office publicly praised the men and women responsible for protecting Vance and his family.

Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn emphasized that agents assigned to protective details understood the demands that came with the job.

“When US Secret Service Special Agents choose to join a protective detail, they understand the commitment required: long hours, frequent travel, and the need for constant flexibility,” he said per the Daily Mail.

Quinn continued by noting that nights, weekends, and holidays were routine for agents tasked with safeguarding protectees, adding that they worked tirelessly to balance security with allowing public officials and their families to maintain as much normalcy as possible.

JD Vance’s office echoed that message, saying the Vance family was “grateful to the men and women of the US Secret Service who serve our country with distinction.”

Officials added that protecting a vice president with an extensive policy agenda and a young family presented unique challenges, but said Secret Service personnel continued to perform their responsibilities “with excellence every day.”

Meanwhile, the alleged leak has already resulted in administrative action. Sources told CNN that the unidentified agent has been placed on administrative leave while investigators determine whether confidential information was improperly shared.

The agent is also undergoing an internal affairs review as officials work to establish exactly how the information reached the media and whether any agency policies were violated.

The latest investigation into the alleged leak of Vance’s travel plans isn’t the first time his Secret Service detail has come under scrutiny.

In January, the agency faced another embarrassing security lapse after one of Vance’s assigned agents was caught on hidden camera allegedly revealing sensitive operational details during what he believed was a romantic date.

According to PEOPLE, the woman was actually an undercover journalist working with O’Keefe Media Group, and the footage appeared to show the agent discussing protective formations, shift schedules, travel plans, and even sharing photos of Vance’s convoy that reportedly contained location metadata.

The Secret Service swiftly placed the agent on administrative leave, suspended his security clearance, and revoked his access to agency systems.

Quinn also announced that every employee would be required to retake the agency’s anti-espionage training, while apologizing to the Vance family and reaffirming that the agency had “no tolerance” for conduct that jeopardizes protectees’ safety, privacy, or trust.
