Simone Biles is back in the hospital weeks after revealing that she “almost” lost her life during a frightening medical emergency. The Olympic gymnast shared a smiling photo from the hospital on Thursday, with her husband, Jonathan Owens, by her side despite the procedure falling on his birthday. Simone Biles did not reveal what procedure she underwent or whether it was related to her June health crisis.
The 29-year-old athlete posted a black-and-white photograph showing herself dressed in a hospital gown and surgical cap.
Biles appeared in good spirits as she smiled beside Owens, who accompanied his wife to the medical facility despite celebrating his 31st birthday. “His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote beneath the photograph.
The gymnast also revealed the unexpected way she reacted after waking up from the procedure. “I woke up singing BossMan Dlow’s ‘Talk my Sh–’,” she added.
Biles did not disclose the nature of the procedure or provide additional information about her condition. Her cheerful update nevertheless offered some reassurance following her alarming health disclosure last month.
The Olympian Recently Said She ‘Almost’ Died
In June, Biles told followers that she had experienced one of the most terrifying medical situations of her life. Although she said she values “privacy in today’s age,” the athlete decided to acknowledge what happened because “almost dying” was not on her “bingo card.”
Biles did not reveal a diagnosis or explain what triggered the emergency. She instead thanked members of her “close circle” who “checked in, visited and or sent flowers.”
The Olympian promised that she would explain the mysterious incident “sooner or later.” “This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Johnathan was in Indy for practices,” Biles shared at the time.
Owens was attending NFL preseason practice with the Indianapolis Colts when the emergency occurred. Because Biles has not provided further details, it remains unclear whether her latest procedure had any connection to the June health scare.

Owens’ presence at the hospital appeared especially meaningful given that he was away when Biles experienced her previous emergency. The couple first connected through the dating app Raya in March 2020. They took their relationship public on Instagram in August of that year. Owens proposed on Valentine’s Day in 2022, approximately two years after they began dating.
The athlete couple first married during a civil ceremony in Houston, Texas, in April 2023. One month later, Biles and Owens held a second wedding celebration in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Biles’ return to the hospital also comes after she spoke candidly about undergoing cosmetic surgery. The decorated gymnast revealed that a breast augmentation was one of three plastic surgery procedures she has received.
During a “Breast Augmentation Q&A” shared on TikTok, Biles said she underwent the operation in June and provided specific details about her implants. According to the athlete, she selected 310cc, high-profile, extra-filled silicone implants. She said they were placed beneath the muscle to create the “most natural look.”
Biles also identified her surgeon as Dr. Kriti Mohan in Houston.

Biles’ recent health concerns come as she continues weighing whether to pursue a fourth Olympic appearance at the 2028 Games. Earlier this year, the gymnast told CNN Sports that she had not reached a final decision but acknowledged that her window to choose a path was narrowing.
“I feel like we’re still at a 50-50,” Biles said during the interview in Madrid, Spain. “We’re still on a time crunch here. Now it’s almost half of 2026, so we’re gonna have to make these decisions pretty quickly.”
The three-time Olympian identified her mental health as one of the biggest factors influencing her decision. Biles previously withdrew from several events at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after experiencing the “twisties,” which disrupted her ability to safely perform complex skills.
“Mental health plays a big role in it because, physically, my coaches will get me in shape,” Biles told CNN Sports while attending the Laureus World Sports Awards. “I can get myself in shape. We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy. But mental is a huge thing, and it’s a lot of dedication on that, because the road’s not easy. It’s long, but it’s still work.”
