Swift was at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City watching her husband play alongside his team against the Indianapolis Colts. During the game, Kelce caught a touchdown on a 13-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes.
The cameras focused on the singer for a few seconds as she celebrated her husband’s first touchdown of the 2026 NFL season. She donned a red Chiefs tank top and raised her hand, pointing to her ring finger, appearing to mouth “that’s my guy.”
A 7-second clip of what appeared to be a sweet moment made its way to the official NBC Sports X page. The video was captioned “IN HER WIFE ERA! Taylor Swift had a MESSAGE after Travis Kelce’s touchdown.” The video has since received over 150,000 views and over 3,000 reactions.

While some internet users saw this moment as Swift being a supportive wife, several others did not hold back, declaring that her cheers did not sit right with them. “I have groups of people watching the game with me. “She somehow finds a way to make it about her….” another user wrote, while a different fan added, “You are ruining the football fan experience showing her every time Travis breathes. Damn.”
Some sets of netizens took it a notch further, hurling insults at the singer. “Keep that piece of sh-t off the TV screen. Why the f-ck do we have to be subjected [to] this f-cking ugly a-s liberal piece of sh-t? She’s a damn Satanist too!!” a commenter wrote.
Another person echoed a similar sentiment, “Yeah, he can really see you up there, you dumb tw-t. She is absolutely insufferable,” with a separate commenter writing, “Stop showing this ugly, talentless, narcissistic c-nt.”

Kevin Dungy, a former football player and coach, previously spoke with news outlets, where he stressed that the Swift effect was doing more harm than good to the NFL.
According to reports at the time, the artist’s appearance at the games led to a 63% increase in female viewers aged 18 to 49. It also reportedly tripled the ‘Chiefs’ web searches and Chiefs sales on StubHub.
In Dungy’s words, Swift’s appearance to cheer Kelce on during his games was “the thing that’s disenchanting people with sports now.” He added that “There’s so much on the outside coming in. Entertainment value and different things that are taking away from what really happens on the field.”
According to The Blast, the football coach believed that many people were not interested in watching and enjoying the matches but rather were fixated on Swift’s cheers, ultimately diverting attention from the on-field results.

The Grammy winner found a friend in Brittany Mahomes, whose husband is Kelce’s teammate and close friend. The pair have posed for many pictures together at NFL games, cheering their partners on the field, as reported by The Blast.
As the backlash heightened, Brittany took to social media to defend her friend from the hounding critics. She reposted a comment from former NBA player Charles Barkley to her Instagram stories, slamming haters.
Brittany added three simple words, “Let. Them. Know,” to her repost of Barkley’s comment, which read, “If you’re screaming at Taylor Swift saying she ruined [football], you’re just a loser.” Other celebrities also rose to the “Blank Space” singer’s defense, including Stephen A. Smith.

It is apparent that Swift’s cheer era did not end with her dating and engagement phase. She showed up at Arrowhead Stadium earlier this month to support her husband at his first football game since their intimate wedding.
The Blast reported that the singer watched Kelce from a VIP suite in the stands while chatting with Tom Cruise. She wore a red-and-white polo top, cheering proudly for the Chiefs in her husband’s team’s colors and her signature red lipstick. The Kansas City Chiefs came home triumphant, defeating the Denver Broncos, 31-10.
Swift has been a Chiefs fan since 2023, when her romantic relationship with Kelce began. She has attended several games, including the February 2024 Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, where the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
