He explained that he attempted to speak with the man beforehand, sharing details about his military service and the friends he lost during the war. Despite the conversation, the fan initially stayed in his seat, which Chavez said contributed to his frustration.
The widely circulated video, recorded during the Cubs’ 10-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, shows Chavez repeatedly urging the younger man to stand. At one point, he leans forward from his seat before striking the fan on the back of the head.
